St.James Quarter Rooftop Garden
A rooftop garden located in St James Quarter, on the fifth floor of the New Eidyn’s modern apartments that benefit from their own terrace and garden with exceptional views which provide an exclusive sanctuary within Edinburgh’s vibrant city centre.
This contemporary garden design involves the balance between the need for ecology, aesthetics and maintenance.
It focuses on the way in which the space is felt and experienced as a piece of nature, an unusual plant composition that aims to attract the attention and the interest of its ‘users’.
The concept of the garden design is a MATRIX, a string of compartments, each containing grouping plants in ‘drifts’ of pastel colours, carefully blending colours, and planting diagonal swathes of perennials, grasses, and bulbs with complementary colour combinations.
The existing shape of the space is a rectangle and the concept starts from the idea of a symmetrical plan, evolved into an asymmetrical one, and translated into a contemporary and dynamic space.
The focal>central space is a green oasis for calm and relaxation, represented by the shape of a circle, this harmonious shape that stands for wholeness, perfection, balance, and the Cosmos.
The garden design is not just about plants, it is about emotion, atmosphere, and a sense of contemplation and what could be more beautiful than relaxing in this colourful oasis, among plants and perfumes, on the rooftop in the vibrant centre of Edinburgh, so closer to the sky, looking at the sea and the clear sky on a sunny day?
